In a world where Apple and Samsung dominate the mobile gadget sales, few brands have ever come close to threatening these two giants. Their product specs are off the charts and they take their battles to court.
But remember, sales are determined by the number of people buying a product. No matter how expensive it is, if you’re not selling anything, well, good luck with that. Better you have a million buyers of a mid- range product playing testament to your product’s potential than an old brand with nowhere to go but down the drain or memory lane.
This is what league newcomer, Xiaomi is banking on. Another interesting brand that’s come all the way from China, its Xiaomi HongMi was reported to sell 100,000 units in two minutes and five seconds.
GSMInsider.com described the handset as “one of the cheapest quad-core smartphones in the Chinese market. It is available for RMB 799 ($130) on the price tag. HongMi Phone has a 4.7-inch HD display, 1.5GHz MediaTek MT6589T quad-core processor, 1GB RAM, 4GB of internal memory and 8MP of camera on the rear-side of the device.”

This is just the tip of the iceberg. Expect to hear more news from Xiaomi under the leadership of former Android big boss Hugo Barra.
The specs may still be far from Apple’s or Samsung’s but Xiaomi’s out to make a bigger name for itself thanks to its mid- range price tags, sleek product designs and still amazing specs.
