You know how you like to hang around the Internet for hours on end, day and night, practically 24/7? We get that. We really do. With the thousands and thousands of websites plus the millions of images, videos, articles, blogs, and whatnot that you can check out, it’s no wonder that you’ll just want to live your life as a freakin’ Internet zombie forever.
But no! You must not do that, you silly little geniuses! The web can be so much cooler (and smarter) if you knew which websites to go to. And I promise not to bore you to death with ridiculously “serious” or “adult” pages. Here are some awesome websites that can change your fate and return you to the realm of humanity, or at least keep your brain intact.
Memrise is a site that offers flashcards to help you learn a particular language through your excitable imaginations. How, you ask? Imaginative learning is Memrise’s way to get into your heads à la Inception by planting non-repetitive mems (yes, from the word memes) that you can choose as your visual guide. You can create your own memes for learning as well! Memes + studying a language = COOL! After a few flashcards, you’d be like, “Ugh. I can’t believe you don’t know what un poco de vino means. Duh.”
I know math is hard, but hey, you need it, so listen up! MathRun is just your basic mathematics that you can play through an online game. Keep your math skills from getting rusty by doing a little mental math every now and then. Wouldn’t hurt to keep that brain of yours math-sharp, you know. You just need to use your left and right arrow keys to answer if the computation is correct or not: it’s that simple! Don’t be scared of math, kids. If you are, learn to conquer that fear. Don’t be such pussies! Tip: you can challenge your math-o-phobic friends and see what they’re made of. *Evil laughter*
Not only will you enrich your English vocab, you’d also be able to donate rice for every correct answer you give. How fantabulous is that? Hunger and education, after all, are the two most important problems in society that we can do something about no matter our age, right? As your grains of rice pile up with every correct answer, you’ll literally be able to feel your angel wings growing on your back. Well, no, not literally. That’d be ridiculous. But you get it. You should.
I know how you guys don’t pay attention to talks in school buy Dr. Whatshisface or Prof. Whoever but let me tell you something about this site, the talks in general are worthwhile, even life-changing. “But they’re BORING!” you say. Wait until you check out the talks they have. You can choose which categories you want to watch from anyway, so stop being such crybabies. TED talks are given by creative speakers who have amazing ideas, some unheard of and others totally cool and hilarious. Try to listen to these adults, you can hit pause anytime you feel like it anyway. Ah, the pause: the biggest treat in seminar history.
So there you have it. If you’re going to be an Internet zombie, better be a smart Internet zombie, yes?
