Yep, you read it right. Some Chinese salons actually use fire to brighten up your eyes–and people actually pay to get a shot of that! Well, I say “No, thanks!” But shocking as it may seem, Huo Liao or fire treatment is a pretty common practice in China. In fact, it is considered alternative therapy. Now, don’t ask me what happens when things go terribly wrong, dude. I’m just as scared as you are. However, there are brave souls out there who actually consider this treatment to cure the most far-off things such as the common cold and obesity. I’m not sure how these things are related, but therapists of this practice guarantee that it works.
If you ever visit China and ask about fire treatment, they probably won’t make a big fuss about it. After all, it won’t be just some random receptionist or staff that would light you on fire but a well-trained therapist.
If you’re still scared, then just bring a bottle of water for when you feel like you can’t take it anymore. Bring a gallon, if you must!
Seriously, though, to get an idea of the proceedings as I am no expert in the matters of setting stuff on fire, therapy, and pretty much anything Chinese, watch some vids online.
If the idea is still too bizarre for you to comprehend, you can always find someone who has seen or actually experienced Huo Liao. And blog about it, I beg of you. Write about your experience and enlighten our doubtful, scared as crap minds!
People would really do anything for beauty–even things that are thisclose to cray cray! But we can’t criticize things we don’t know anything about, right? If someone desperately wants to feel better or lose weight with fire, then so be it. After all, um, YOLO. Right? Right!
