Sports is a lucrative business but as with every business, it’s not for everyone. A few chosen people will make it big. There will be the Lebron James’s and Kobe Bryant’s who are molded and groomed to hit it and there will be the Jeremy Lin’s who will need a stroke of luck and an awful lot of hardwork.
Locally, Kiefer Ravena and Jeron Teng mightily have it in them and in their genes to lead their respective UAAP teams and build an impressive basketball career. Kiefer’s dad was a highflying slasher while Jeron’s dad was Robocop. It’s also in their genes to have the muscle power to fly and ram thru the defense.
Given the right situation, an athlete could make the most of his endowments and build himself into his own brand while pulling other existing brands to tag along with his success. At the end game, some people will earn the most, some earn more than others, and the others will survive not being the star but still earn a respective amount.
